sonic coast :: asynchronous composition voice workshop

On the morning of 18th November Marc Yeats led a very successful 90 minute workshop with a group of 20 students at Weymouth College. The group was from a variety of backgrounds. Marc was able to engage all of the students from start to finish, and they actively participated in and created an original piece of asynchronous music. He paced it very well, consistently challenging the group but never overwhelming them. Complex ideas were discussed in an accessible way and everybody ‘got it.’ The students gave a final performance, which after some initial giggles was suddenly taken very seriously as it took shape. There was a magical moment when everything came together and I think everyone realised something great was happening. I would like to thank Marc for introducing the students to new ways of thinking about music, and hopefully whetting their appetites so that they make the leap and attend the concert on Saturday night.
